DoctorTrey.com-S02 episode 034: The Unholy Reunion
Dr. Trey and The Icon are joined by their long lost friend, co-host and producer of the show: JROQ! There are a couple of great new features on DoctorTrey.com, 1st, it’s the new chatroom provided by Meebo, and 2nd, we are now taking calls live on our program. Roxanne Darling of Beach Walks with Rox immediately calls in to talk about the Hoku Awards ceremony and asks how she can attend the event. We pretty much go through all the normal stuff, with Jenn eating pork rinds on the show. We talk about the Hoku Awards and ask the question the entire industry is asking regarding the legitimacy of one groups nomination. Also calling in all the way from The Big Big island is our good friend Hekili who talks about F.O.B. If you wanna know what thats about, listen to the show. For the record, meebo has a chatroom now, so we’re going to use it for the live shows. Also, if you want to get notified when we’re doing a live show, jump on twitter and get text messages sent to your phone informing you of this.

I can’t wait for the new IZ album. Also, I googled Chimney. It’s derived from the Anglo-French “Chiminee”. http://www.chiminee.com

Hekili: You obviously have a lot of time on your hands.
Ipo: Thank you for listening. For the record, Ipo is manager of Gomega and Kanoa Kukaua!

haha, it didn’t take that long. I actually remember it being used or said like that before. Which is probably why I never picked up on it being a pidgin thing. But yes, as you know I do have a lot of time on my hands. This is a big island with not much to do.

Thanks Doctory Trey - another funny show, and Miss Jenn munching made me remember eating those things with hot sauce back too many years ago to count. Loved the call-in from Rox too - what a sweetie and always so positive (she’s got Hawai’i DNA in there somewhere, eh?)…
Hekili - I order coffee (100% Kona) from the big island from a Mom & Pop farm. No bug spray or chem fertilizer - it’s wonderful. I was in Kailua-Kona and Hilo on a trip in 2004. Love, love, love Hawai’i. Are you seeing a lot of transplanted Californian’s out Big Island way? If so, do you think they try to meld into the culture, or tend to stay more to themselves? (just curious)
Kimo - do you have a favorite store for CD’s or just where ever you happen to be? I use one online in Kaua’i I really like. If I order 6 (I think, it’s been a while) CD’s there’s no shipping fee.

JFSD - Yeah lots of Californians here. Lots from all over most of the west coast and further. I work with a girl from Oregon, and a woman from Ohio too. As far as melding into the culture I think you’d find people who do one or the other. But for the most part I’d say they try to meld, and I think this is true for all of Hawaii. Most of the time, hopefully, it was the culture and people that made them come here and want to stay. I think probably it’s more the wealthier folks who tend to keep to themselves, who just came here for the location. They’re usually the ones who complain about how things are and try to change it more to their liking However you’d probably find that anywhere in the world.
Also I’m glad you’re getting a taste of Kona in your cup every morning. I’m not a big coffee drinker, but just being here I can appreciate the product they’re putting out. You’re right to go with the mom and pop too. Any of the bigger producers who sell Kona blends are just ripping people off with only 10% actual Kona.
