DoctorTrey.com-S03 episode 015: Defining Music with DJ SUPERDAVE
Happy New Year Breeze to y’all. I know it’s been awhile since we’ve posted a show, but it’s time to get into the 2008 groove. So we still have a few shows in the can from 07, and this is one of them. On this program, Dj SuperDave is put in the hot seat as we ask him to define his music. Also, it’s been awhile since we’ve done this, but this one is available as an enhanced version. Keep in mind that the enhanced versions will take a bit longer to show up on the feed. If you want the promised link because you have DoctorTrey.com on your top 8 MySpace, email Dr. Trey with the link to your MySpace Page. For the record, meebo has a chatroom now, so we’re going to use it for the live shows. Also, if you want to get notified when we’re doing a live show, jump on twitter and get text messages sent to your phone informing you of this.

Talking about Rap and hip hop. If you guys haven’t already you need to check out the “Cool Kids”. They’ve got one song up on iTunes, but have more on their myspace page which is probably http://www.myspace.com/coolkids
These guys are the freshest voices I’ve heard in quite a long time.

I’d just like to say that for me personally, I’d like nothing more than to be able to get into some Hawai’i based hip hop, but to be perfectly honest, I haven’t heard anybody who’s that good. Take style off the table because whether they’re trying to sound East Coast, West Coast, or anything in between is irrelevant to me, I just haven’t heard anybody who can really put it down.
I like what some artists are trying to do, but stack what they’re doing against some of the mainland talent and it’s not even a competition, at least based on what I’ve heard.
I like Sudden Rush and have really got to hand it to them for incorporating Hawaiian rapping into their songs, but even with them I couldn’t listen to them like I would Mos Def, Jay Z, Nas, Brother Ali, Dr. Dre, Eric B & Rakim, Tupac, Notorious BIG and others.
Kekai’s got a point that people coming up need to search for their own voices and their own style to put Hawai’i on the map as far as hip hop is concerned.
